Brian R. Hoke, DPT, SCS
Licensed Physical Therapist
Sports Medicine Clinical Specialist
Brian is the Director of the First Colonial office of Atlantic Physical Therapy, PC. Brian received his degree in Physical Therapy with Highest Distinction from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1981. He received his post-professional Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Boston University in 2006. Brian is a board certified Clinical Specialist in Sports Physical Therapy, a distinction achieved by less than 600 physical therapists in the U.S.
Brian's professional experience includes work with all levels of athletes from the recreational runner to elite professional and Olympic athletes. He has contributed chapters to two textbooks on the treatment of running injuries.
In addition to his clinical and administrative responsibilities, Brian is actively involved in Physical Therapy education. He is an Adjunct Faculty Member of Physical Therapy Programs at Old Dominion University and Touro College on Long Island, NY. In addition, Brian has been a faculty member of the popular continuing medical education seminar "When the Feet Hit the Ground, Everything Changes" since 1985. He was a co-developer of the Advanced Course "Take the Next Step" and has taught this course since 1990 (for course and registration information, click here). Brian has presented over 250 seminars in the U.S., and has also given presentations in Great Britain, Canada, Germany, Australia and New Zealand.
Brian and his wife, Paula, have four children: Robert, Emily, David and Stephanie. Brian resides in Virginia Beach and is a recreational runner and avid golfer.

Andrew P. Altman, ATC, PT
Licensed Physical Therapist
Certified Athletic Trainer
Mr. Altman is a Virginia Beach native and grew up in the Kempsville area. Andy earned a Bachelors Degree in Education from East Carolina University with an emphasis in Athletic Training and then a Masters Degree in Athletic Training from West Virginia University. Andy has ten years of experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer at the Division I collegiate level and has also served as an athletic trainer for professional baseball in the Chicago White Sox organization at the Triple A and major league levels. He earned his Masters degree in Physical Therapy from Old Dominion University in 1995 graduated with honors. Mr. Altman has served as a Teaching Assistant for Advanced Gross Human Anatomy in the Old Dominion University Department of Biology and continues his teaching interests at Old Dominion University as an Adjunct Faculty member in the Graduate Program in Physical Therapy. Andy specializes in shoulder and elbow rehabilitation with emphasis on the throwing athlete. He has extensive knowledge and experience with throwing biomechanics and uses the latest digital technology to analyze biomechanical faults which may help to prevent injury and/or increase throwing velocity. Mr. Altman lives in Virginia Beach with his wife and three children and enjoys family activities and spending time on the golf course.

David Volkringer, MPT, OCS
Licensed Physical Therapist Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopedics
Mr. Volkringer is originally from New York where he was employed as a certified personal trainer and director of fitness in a sports medicine facility. He attended Virginia Tech where he received Bachelors in Architecture. In 1996, he moved to Virginia Beach and joined the team of Atlantic Sports Medicine. Shortly thereafter, he earned his Masters in Physical Therapy from Old Dominion University while serving as president of his class and graduating with honors. In early 2003, he was recognized as a board certified specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy. In 2006 he was recognized by the American Physical Therapy Association as a Certified Clinical Instructor. Additionally, he serves as Adjunct Faculty in the Doctorate of Physical Therapy program at Old Dominion University. In 2004 he developed a continuing education course for licensed physical therapists on the mechanics of the pelvis and lower extremities that he teaches nationally several times a year (for course and registration information, click here). Mr. Volkringer's special areas of interest include lower quarter biomechanics and rehabilitation of pelvic, hip and foot injuries. He is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association's Sports Section and is licensed to practice in the State of Virginia. He resides with his wife Carol and two children, Michael and Samantha, in Virginia Beach and enjoys spending free time running and playing golf.

Michele Nielsen, DPT
Licensed Physical Therapist
Michele is a native of Virginia Beach and has been employed with Atlantic Physical Therapy since August 2000. She graduated from First Colonial High School in 1996 and from there attended Old Dominion University majoring in Exercise Science. After graduating from Old Dominion she joined the APT team as an exercise specialist. Following three years of full-time experience at Atlantic she returned to Old Dominion where she earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. She has now been a physical therapist at Atlantic Physical Therapy since May 2006. Michele has a special interest in Dance Medicine. She was a competitive dancer with Denise Wall's Dance Energy in high school and has continued to enjoy the art post-competition. She recently attended a course on dance medicine in New York City and plans to continue pursuing this branch of physical therapy. Michele resides in Virginia Beach with her husband Adam.

Lucas Johnson, DPT
Licensed Physical Therapist
Lucas calls Seattle, Washington home, but has spent most of his life living on the east coast while his father was in the Navy. He earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Old Dominion University in May 2007. Prior to becoming a licensed physical therapist at Atlantic Physical Therapy, he completed his final clinical internship at the West office. Lucas’ clinical interests include biomechanics of the lower extremity and rehabilitation of the overhead athlete. He presented his final case report on “Iliotibial Band Syndrome in Runners and Cyclists.” He received his undergraduate degree in Kinesiology from the University of Maryland, College Park in May 1999, where he also volunteered as a student athletic trainer for the Terrapin football team. Lucas also serves as an adjunct assistant professor at Old Dominion University for select physical therapy courses and lab instruction. He lives in Norfolk, Virginia and enjoys sports, outdoor activities, and traveling.

Dolores Fitzpatrick
Patient Account Coordinator
Dolores is a native of Staten Island, New York. She moved to Virginia Beach in 1996. Dolores is a graduate of St. John’s University. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Administration with a minor in Business. She also earned a Master’s Degree in Health Services Administration from Central Michigan University. Before moving to Virginia Beach, Dolores taught Health and Physical Education in a New York High School. After moving to Virginia Beach, she worked at the Kempsville Recreation Center, first in the Athletic Department and then as a Recreation Specialist in the Youth/ Adult Unit. She was the director at the Senior Center. She is also an ACE Certified Personal Trainer. |

Patrice Davis
Front Office Coordinator
Patrice has lived in Virginia since 1994 and is currently attending Norfolk State University. Upon graduation, she plans on continuing her education in the medical field. Patrice joined the Atlantic Physical Therapy staff in March 2004, after spending 1.5 years as a medical receptionist at a Family Practice Office.

Shariff Rudolph
Exercise Specialist
A native of Boston, Massachusetts went to Boston College where he received a degree in Psychology. He is currently the Head Track and Field coach at Cape Henry Collegiate School.
In college he was a Division I long and triple jumper and at present is still training on a high level. Outside of work Shariff enjoys training extensively in Martial Arts plus artwork of various kinds.

Melissa Loyd, MS, ATC
Certified Athletic Trainer
Melissa is originally from Bismarck, North Dakota. She is a 2003 graduate of Olivet Nazarene University in Illinois where she received her Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training. A former athlete herself, Melissa was a four-year letterman on the women's basketball team at ONU serving as team captain her senior year. After graduation, Melissa worked at Loyola University-Chicago as an intern athletic trainer. She received her Master's degree in Health and Movement Science from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2006. She has several years of collegiate experience as a certified athletic trainer working with football, basketball, soccer and baseball teams. Melissa is now a clinical athletic trainer at Atlantic Physical Therapy and is head athletic trainer at Catholic High School. She is licensed by the state of Virginia and is a member of the National Athletic Trainer's Association.

Kim Martin

Kim was born in West Chester, PA, yet she has been a resident of Hampton Roads single 1970. She is the mother of two sons ages sixteen and eight. Kim has been in the medical field for over 15 years in both a hospital and clinical setting. Kim has been the patient accounts coordinator at Atlantic Physical Therapy for over 1 year, and also has worked as a Patient Data Specialist in the Emergency Department at CHKD for over 10 years. Kim enjoys spending time with her family and walking at Mount Trash more in her free time.

Gabbi graduated on May 4, 2007 from East Carolina University with a Bachelor's of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation. She was born in Virginia Beach, but lived in many places around the world (from being in a military family). Gabbi enjoys spending time with family and friends, especially at the beach.

Mary is a resident of Norfolk, Virginia and graduated with honors from Granby High School in 2001 where she played soccer and was a competitive swimmer. She then went on to attend Radford University and graduated with an undergraduate degree in Sports Medicine in 2005. Mary has been accepted into the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at Old Dominion University and will begin in the summer of 2008. Mary has worked at Atlantic Physical Therapy for over 2 years as an exercise specialist. In her spare time Mary enjoys the beach and playing with her nephew.

Jessica was born in Virginia Beach, VA and graduated with honors from Frank W. Cox High school in 2005 where she ran track and wrote for their literary magazine. Jessica is currently enrolled at Tidewater Community college where she is pursuing an associate’s degree in Social Sciences. She then plans to attend Old Dominion University in the fall of 2008 to pursue a bachelor’s degree in exercise science. In her spare time she enjoys walking her pup Riley and working out at the gym. |

Lindsay Ellingsen

Lindsay is a senior at Old Dominion University and is currently studying Exercise Science. She has worked at Atlantic Physical Therapy for a year and a half as an exercise specialist. She is getting married in June of 2008 and plans on attending graduate school. She enjoys traveling and spending time with family and friends in her spare time. |

Carey is currently enrolled at Old Dominion University for a degree in Exercise Science and will graduate in May of 2008. He graduated with honors from Ocean Lakes High School in 2002. He has aspirations to attend graduate school in 2009 for physical therapy. Carey enjoys sushi and the beach, but more so loves spending time with his family and friends. |

Mike Maugeri

Mike was born and raised in Virginia Beach. He graduated from First Colonial High School in 2001 where he played varsity soccer, volleyball, and swimming. He is a 2006 graduate of James Madison University with a B.S. in Health Science. Mike has worked at Atlantic Physical Therapy since June of 2006 and plans to pursue a career in physical therapy in the near future. In his spare time, Mike enjoys relaxing at the beach, surfing, working out, playing guitar, and playing with his dog, Lexi.

Julie Anuszkiewicz, ATC, PT

Julie A-Z is originally from Pittsburgh, PA and relocated to the Hampton Roads area in 2004. She received her Bachelor of Health Science and Masters of Physical Therapy from Saint Francis University in Pennsylvania. Julie is a Certified Athletic Trainer and a NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist who has been working closely with athletes since 1998.
Since 2004, Julie has been on a quest to learn specialized ways to treat muscle imbalances, postural asymmetries and movement impairment syndromes. She has had the privilege of being trained in the internationally recognized teachings of Phillip Greeman, Shirley Sharman and Ron Hruska. Through advanced training she has developed clinical proficiency in manual medicine and movement analysis. She has developed clinical expertise in manually treating the neck, shoulder, rib cage, and lumbar-pelvic hip complex. She is an APTA credentialed Clinical Instructor and shares in the passion of providing leadership for the growth of the profession of physical therapy. She is currently pursuing a certification in the teachings of the Postural Restoration Institute http://posturalrestoration.com.

Cynthia was born in Illinois, but was raised and currently resides in Virginia Beach. She graduated from Salem High School in 2004 and is currently seeking her bachelor’s degree in communications from Old Dominion University. Cynthia has been employed with Atlantic Physical Therapy for 2 ½ years where she works the front desk part time. Her idea of fun is being in the outdoors and she enjoys being a student and working at Atlantic Physical Therapy.

Marissa Murphy

Marissa comes from a military family so she has grown up all around the world. She graduated High School in Northern Virginia from Lake Braddock in 2007. She is a current student at Old Dominion University, majoring in Exercise Science with a minor in Psychology. She plans to graduate from Old Dominion May 2010, and then pursue studying Physical Therapy by attending Old Dominion’s DPT program beginning the summer of 2010. In her free time Marissa enjoys playing soccer, snowboarding, and relaxing at the beach. While work and school are her top priorities, Marissa still loves to go out and have fun with her friends!

Morgan is a native of Virginia Beach and graduated from Frank W. Cox High School where she ran track for 3 years. In addition, to working at Atlantic Physical Therapy she is taking classes toward her Physical Therapy Assistant degree. Morgan loves to go to the beach, eat mexican food, and watch movies with friends.
